Les Deux Magnolias is located just a short walk from St Léon. This small village has a grocery store, a butcher, a bakery, a café/restaurant, a post office, a launderette and a barber shop. St Léon also has places for fishing. Fishers need a permit, which the owner can obtain for visitors.

Two kilometres away, the village of Neuvic has the nearest petrol station and supermarket. Neuvic is also the location of an impressive château set amid an exceptional botanical garden.

There is a wider range of facilities, including several restaurants, three supermarkets, and a train station, four kilometres to the east in the town of St Astier. Every Thursday is market day in St Astier; it is one of the best in the area, with a wide variety of local food and products on sale. This is an ideal opportunity to explore Dordogne's renowned cuisine; regional specialties include paté de foie gras and magrets d’oies et canards.

There is a public 18-hole golf course nearby, where equipment can be hired. Etang de la Jemaye is about fifteen minutes by car. The lake features a restaurant, recreational activities, picnic areas, and free parking.

There are many historic towns, villages and vineyards within easy reach by car. Every town has a market day, where regional specialties are available, such as duck, fine wines, walnuts, and strawberries. Most vineyards also have wine tasting opportunities for visitors.

20 kilometres to the east is the city of Périgueux, the capital of the Périgord region. This town is steeped in history, and has some fine cathedrals. It's a 60 minute drive to the city of Bordeaux, which has a very impressive 18th century centre, and a great range of shops.

Also within easy reach are the châteaux of Hautefort and Bourdeilles. Don't miss the chance to visit the flawlessly preserved medieval town of Sarlat, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Other recommended trips include Lascaux, famous for its prehistoric cave paintings; the immense cave at Padirac, where visitors can take a boat ride through a subterranean lake; the Vezère and Dordogne rivers for canoeing and swimming; and the vineyards of Bergerac, Bordeaux and St. Emilion.

Guest Opinions

A unique place allowing us time to relax and plenty of opportunity to explore the surrounding area... Make sure you also get to the patisserie in nearby Neuvic to indulge in the pastries!
Peter and Clare F. - Sydney, NSW, Australia

We are seasoned Gite visitors, but this has been the best we've stayed in without doubt.
Jackie G. and Jennie F. - Saltburn, England

This is our third visit and every year it’s become better, making it much harder to leave.
Hugh and Michelle M - Hull, Yorkshire, England

There seems to be either not enough paper or too many words to describe how lovely our stay has been.
Dave and Deborah P. - Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Sadly only one week! Next time we will be sure to have two. We came looking for a peaceful retreat and certainly found it here.
Marjory and Ian C - Scotland

From the cool beer in the fridge on arrival, to the beautiful outside dining areas and a lunchtime cabaret in the form of two little red squirrels collecting hazelnuts, we’d love to stay again.
Jeanette and Stuart B. - Redlingfield, Suffolk, England

To those who stay after us: In the garden look out for: red squirrels drinking from the pool very early, hoopoes at breakfast time, swallowtail butterflies on the lavander, woodpeckers in the trees... We will be back.
Phil and Rebecca W. - Leeds, England

We couldn’t have asked for a more private, personal and beautiful setting.
Roger A. and Judith W. - Hamilton, Montana, U.S.A.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in your beautiful gîte. The weather was superb and we were grateful to have a pool all to ourselves. We were amazed at the much slower pace of life here. We definitely recommend the €12 four course lunch at Le Bar-Restaurant de la Post. Thank you, Arnold and Rita for your kindness, support, and advice.
Sean and Bronagh C. - Belfast, Ireland

Our second visit- and not our last. The gîte remains a haven from the outside world.
Sarah and Paul M. - London, England

We wish our time here didn’t have to end. We have spent one of the best holidays ever in these beautiful surroundings.
Lise and Flemming S. - Denmark
