About the Property
The swimming pool
The swimming pool
Le Domaine Saint Genies was built in the 18th century as an abbey, and has been restored to provide comfortable accommodation for up to 11 guests in five bedrooms. Set in the midst of vineyards close to the traditional village of St Didier, the three-storey house is built around an inner courtyard containing a fountain.

There are two terraces, one of which looks onto the courtyard, while the other overlooks the pool and gardens and has a view of Mont Ventoux. An electrically-operated gate leads into the large and well-kept grounds. The private 11x6 metre swimming pool is surrounded by sunbeds and parasols. From April 4 till June 19 and from August 28 till October 30 the pool is heated.

The living area
The living area
Inside, the house is traditionally furnished and decorated, with exposed wooden ceiling beams. A set of stone steps leads up to the middle floor, where a spacious open-plan room is divided into living and dining areas. In the living area, comfortable sofas surround a TV and a large fireplace. The dining table seats eight guests, with seating for an additional four in the kitchen. The living area connects to two terraces – one at the front of the house, and one at the back, looking onto the inner courtyard, which has a dining table for eating al fresco. The fully-equipped kitchen includes a dishwasher, an American refrigerator and freezer, an oven and stovetop with gas burners, and a microwave oven. A separate laundry room houses a washing machine, a dryer, iron, and ironing board. Also on this level is the first bedroom, which has a double bed.

The local town of St Didier
The nearest village is St Didier, which is just a kilometre from the house. St Didier has a baker, a grocery, a pharmacy, a post office, a bank, and restaurants with outdoor terraces. It’s five kilometres to Venasque, an attractive village built against the slope of a hill. It has a particularly good restaurant which gives a marvelous view over the valley. There is a large supermarket in Pernes-les-Fontaines, another attractive village nearby.

The surrounding countryside
This region is full of Roman and medieval history. It’s just 30 minutes’ drive to Orange, a Roman town with a famous ancient amphitheatre which still hosts performances during the summer. Vaison-la-Romaine is also home to a famous Roman theatre, as well as a great many other ancient ruins. The city of Avignon is also within a half hour’s drive and features some very impressive medieval buildings, including the famous “Palais des Papes”, the papal palace during the Avignon papacy. The beaches of the Mediterranean are within an hour’s drive. The regional villages all have their own open-air markets selling the excellent produce of the region. There is a great range of caves or wine cellars, where the local wines can be discovered.
