About the Holiday Home

The kitchen and dining area
The kitchen and dining area
La Grande Beaudonnière was built by a group of traditional craftspeople, using some of the building techniques and styles of the middle ages, but with the addition of all modern amenities. The two-storey house comfortably sleeps six adults in three bedrooms, with the possibility of hosting two more in portable beds.

The house is set in a clearing overlooking an orchard in the middle of a three-hectare (seven-acre) forest, surrounded by farms. There is plenty of open space surrounding the house which can be used as a play area, for dining outdoors, or for sunbathing. The closest village is two kilometres away, and there is a full range of shops and services at Brou, six kilometres away.

The living area
The living area
Inside, the house is built in the style of the old houses of the region, with oak beams in all rooms and an old wooden staircase reaching from the ground floor to a mezzanine upstairs. The doors and windows are of solid oak, and all of the furniture is made of solid cherry. The ground floor is an open space with a kitchen, a dining area, a study, a bar, a library, and a living area surrounding a large chimney. The kitchen is fully equipped, including a gas oven and stovetop, and a small room beside it hosts a washer and dryer. Also on the ground floor is a large master bedroom, and a master bathroom containing a circular bathtub, two sinks, and a shower with glass doors.

Upstairs are two more bedrooms, each with a double bed, a study, and a bathroom with two sinks and a shower. One of the upstairs bedrooms opens onto an outside wooden staircase. Electric heating and good insulation keeps the house comfortable during all times of year.

    About the Region

    Chartres Cathedral
    Chartres Cathedral
An hour’s drive to the North East is the medieval city of Chartres, which has one of Europe’s finest medieval cathedrals. The city’s ancient streets are full of history, but it is also very lively, with modern shops and many excellent restaurants. An hour to the south is the Loire river and the famous châteaux of the region. The nearest and most famous of them is Chambord. There are also several vineyards beside the Loire river; particularly popular is Vouvray, a dry and fruity wine.

It’s a 90-minute drive to the centre of Paris, making it a great option for a day trip. Two hours to the north are the D-Day beaches of Normandy, and the traditional port of Honfleur, which has plenty of galleries and reataurants.
