About the Area
The market in Clermont l'Hérault
The market in Clermont l'Hérault
Les Jardins de la Source is just a hundred metres from the main boulevard of Clermont l’Hérault. This street widens into the 18th century main square, which is surrounded by shops, cafés and restaurants, many with traditional interiors and tables outside. The medieval core of Clermont l'Hérault is dominated by the ruins of the 11th century castle. The town’s large shaded marketplace is opposite the 12th century church, where every Wednesday over a hundred vendors sell the superb local produce, including fruit, vegetables, olives, fish, meat and bread.

The modern part of town is also within walking distance, where there are plenty of major shops and hypermarkets, as well as a public sports complex, which has a large outdoor swimming pool, and a cinema. The local wine collective is also a short walk away, where visitors can taste the various wines before buying.

Traffic is never a problem in Clermont l’Hérault. It’s just a few minutes drive to the Lac du Salagou, which is a great place for swimming and other watersports.

About the Region
The town of Clermont l'Hérault
The town of Clermont l'Hérault
The surrounding area contains a large number of picturesque villages, such as the famous St Guilhem le Desert. Next to St Guilhem is the Grotte de Clamouse, a stunning network of caves with a fast-flowing underground river, which is well worth a visit. The peaks of the Cévennes mountain range are also a pleasant drive away.

The Mediterranean beaches at Cap d’Agde (which contain a naturist colony) are 40 kilometres (25 miles) southwards, and there are other quieter beaches nearer to home. Make plans to stop for a drink in Pézenas, a town with a grand and impressive 16th century layout, where the great 17th century playwright Molière spent much of his life and wrote many of his works.

Guest Opinions

In every respect, it was one of the best holidays we have ever had. The apartment was wonderfully equipped and really well located for the local market, a charming little town with some great restaurants and fabulous places to visit nearby. Our hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. All in all a great holiday.

Myself and everyone who was at Les Jardins de la Source over the New Year would like to thank you and Isabel for a superb holiday and a place where we felt truly at home. The surrounding areas were of great interest and excitement and it was a truly pleasurable place to relax. We all hope to have another oppurtunity to be in these wonderful surroundings and even at another season of the year.

We loved our ten day holiday at Les Jardins de la Source. The accomodation was generous and comfortable for both couples to share and the town of Clermont LHereux delightful. We loved the proximity to so many interesting towns and villages and regularly made day trips to them, often returning to own house with the fabulous local produce with which to cook dinner.

You have created a welcoming environment at Les Jardins de la Source, one that I feel privileged to have enjoyed for the 3 weeks of my stay. The apartment is perfect, with all the facilities one needs whether as a base for exploring the Midi or as a temporary home in the town. You are right about the location - Clermont is so well located for the lake, the ocean beaches and the mountains; and when one wants it, the big city attractions of Montpellier too; and above all - no mosquitos! As a break from my intense working life, going at my own pace to enjoy the local villages (and food and wine, of course!) was an enriching, refreshing and rewarding experience all at once - I am so glad I found you on the internet! Les Jardins was a pleasure to return to at the end of each long day. I very much hope I shall be able to return to Clermont and Les Jardins soon.

We could not have asked for more. Although Les Jardins de la Source is right in the middle of this busy working town, we found it an oasis of peace and tranquility. We loved the region, with so much to do.
