About the Holiday Home

The living room
The living room
La Bouquerie is a beautifully renovated 300-year-old stone cottage in the centre of Sarlat. It features a living/dining room with exposed stone walls and beamed ceiling, tile floor and a traditional stone dry sink carved into the wall.

The large kitchen has custom-made chestnut cabinets, hand-made Provencal blue and white tile counters, and top-of-the-line appliances.

The courtyard
The courtyard
The upper level has a solid chestnut floor, with skylights and exposed beams, washed in a white stain. Both bedroom and den have French doors looking out onto tiny balconies.

A small cobbled courtyard is perfect for coffee and croissants, or foie gras and a glass of wine. Just around the corner are a baker and newspaper shop, while only two minutes away are the many cafés, restaurants, shops, and of course the historic sites of Sarlat's old town.

The double bedroom
The double bedroom
After a day wandering through the lanes of Sarlat, shopping and tasting, or visiting the many other wonderful villages in the Dordogne, you can relax with an apéritif in your courtyard - while La Bouquerie is in the centre of town, it is totally private.

There is ample public parking nearby, and the house itself has a private, locked parking space a few minutes away. La Bouquerie is not suitable for children.

About the Area

The market in Sarlat
The market in Sarlat
Sarlat is one of the most fascinating and beautifully restored towns in France, offering the atmosphere and appearance of another age, with narrow steep alleys flanked by medieval and Renaissance houses in honey-coloured stone. It has more historic, listed buildings than any other place of its size in France, and is the only town to be given three stars by the Michelin guides solely for the quality and ambience of its old town. It has one of the biggest weekly markets in France, which takes over most of the town every Saturday. On summer evenings you can stroll through the old town, enjoying various 'animations' such as mimes and musicians, by the gaslight lamps. All summer there are wonderful music festivals in nearby towns, while Sarlat has an open-air theatre festival in the market square in late July, and an international film festival in October.

About the Region

The Dordogne River
The Dordogne River
The Dordogne, or Périgord, region is one of the most beautiful parts of France, and is well known to the French for its food and wine, leading to the saying - En Périgord, on mange bien, on boit bien. As the home of truffles and foie gras, it is an area where you can eat extremely well in countless excellent and inexpensive restaurants. Just east of Bordeaux, it is also noted for its own vineyards, producing Bergerac, Pécharmant, and Monbazillac. For the days you wish to relax at home, local markets provide treats such as strawberries, asparagus, walnut cake, olives and cheese. Legend has it that God, passing through the region with a sack full of châteaux, slipped on the hills of the Dordogne, and châteaux poured out over the countryside - in actuality most of the 1,001 castles date back to the Hundred Years' War that ravaged the region in the 13th century. In addition, as the centre of prehistory in France, the Dordogne has stunning cave paintings at Lascaux, les Eyzies and numerous other sites.

Guest Opinions

I wanted to write and say how much we are enjoying your house. This is the tenth house we have rented in France. Without a question this is the nicest, cleanest, best located, best kitchen, best bathrooms, and most nicely furnished. It is so nice to find the necessary paper products, kitchen cleaning supplies, and the basic kitchen ingredients in the house when one arrives. After a hard day's travel, the welcoming bottle of wine was greatly appreciated and opened almost immediately.
Ron N. and Lynn M. - Charleston, SC, USA

Between the two of us we have rented many houses in various countries over the years, but we both agree that this has been one of the best! Everything is here for the ardent chefs we are, and although the beautiful town is so close, the house is quiet and cool.
Claus and Beryl C. - London, England

What a delight to stay in such a sensitively restored home! And what a staircase – an outstanding example of craftsmanship in wood.
Michael R. and Avril M. - Bath, England

We had found this charming house on the internet and our first thought was that it was too good to be true. But it is true! The property is one of the most well planned and detail oriented places in which we have ever stayed. We highly recommend La Bouquerie.
John R. - Virginia, U.S.A.

To our hosts, many bouquets. Our gratitude to you for your creative architecture, and design – especially the kitchen and the courtyard. We so appreciated how you anticipated our needs.

Our two weeks at La Bouquerie were so special for us, certainly the peak memory of our time in France. So picturesque. So comfortable. So accessible. I remember cooking almost every day in that lovely, well stocked kitchen, often using provisions from the Sarlat market and often using recipes from the kitchens cookbooks. The highlight was a Salade Niçoise made with fresh tuna grilled on the bbq, greens from the market and a homemade vinagrette. It was La Bouquerie that allowed us to contemplate that dinner -- a wonderful cap to a wonderful day.
Brian and Susan W. - Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

If excellence in service and comfort is the standard, then La Bouquerie has attained that and more. We loved our stay and appreciate everything that made it an enjoyable and relaxing holiday. Thank you for the privilege of staying at La Bouquerie! We hope to return.
