Sand yachting near La Brise
Sand yachting near La Brise
A unique sand yachting club is located very close by, and provides a great day of exercise and entertainment for the whole family. This historic pastime makes use of a small cart or wagon, equipped with a sail, enabling riders to effortlessly enjoy an exhilarating ride across the beach.

The safe and scenic beaches are popular family spots, but are also ideal for couples enjoying a romantic retreat, or a single person enjoying the warm breezes and soft sand with a good book. There are also restaurants and cafés in the nearby village of St.Germain, only five minutes' drive from the property and within walking distance of the local beach.

About the Region

Bayeux Cathedral
Bayeux Cathedral
There are several cultural and historical points of interest close to the cottages. The Medieval Basilic of Lessay and the Castle of Pirou are nearby and worth a day trip. Portbail has daily departures to Jersey Island. The chic resort of Carterret is a quick drive as well. The Allied landing beaches of Utah and Omaha are less than an hour away from the property.

The serene and picturesque coastline still holds echoes of the largest invasion in world history, and the area features museums dedicated to the war effort, where locals and visitors alike share an unspoken vow to never forget the sacrifices made so long ago. During the D Day commemorations in June the area is a very popular destination, but there are plenty of interesting things to see throughout the year as well.

The historic town of Saint-Malo
The historic town of Saint-Malo
For the most adventurous visitors, the town of Avranches offers exciting two seat parachute jumping tours. Daily sailboat cruises are offered at Saint-Malo and offer extensive scenic views in a relaxing atmosphere. Guests with children should make a point of visiting the town of La Broussac, and enjoy the locally famous burro cart rides, a sure crowd pleaser for children of all ages.

Normandy is considered the cradle of medieval French history. The region is home to a wealth of castles, fortresses and towns. The legendary tapestry at Bayeux is listed with UNESCO's world heritage artifacts, and depicts the Battle of Hastings in 1066, where the Norman Prince, William the Conqueror, won victory in England, thus changing the course of history. William's home castle of Falaise, located nearby, is still the seat of the Norman Dukes.

The medieval abby of Mont Saint-Michel
The medieval abby of Mont Saint-Michel
The historic Norman capitol of Rouen features many Gothic cathedrals, and is perhaps most noteworthy as the town where Joan of Arc met her fate.

Mont Saint-Michel is also a UNESCO site, housing a medieval abbey perched atop a rocky island. The island village offers visitors a wide variety of restaurants, shops and other amenities. There are no shortage of possibilities for day trips and extended visits to this rich cultural region of France.
