La Campane
A luxurious 18th century Provençal villa with a swimming pool and a fountain jacuzzi, surrounded by a large landscaped garden in a private and tranquil rural setting.
About the Holiday Home
The swimming pool
La Campane is a luxurious Provençal villa, originally dating from the 18th century. It is surrounded by a large, beautifully landscaped garden with plenty of shade, and is located in the hamlet of St-Véran in rural Provence, near the famous wine-producing town of Beaumes-de-Venise. The house is reached by a small road, and has a gate controlled by a video entry system. The large garden gives complete privacy. It has two terraces: a breakfast terrace at the front of the property, and a dining terrace, set amid beds of lavender and
herbes de Provence. There's a barbecue area close by which is ideal for dining outside on long summer evenings. The 10 x 6 metre swimming pool has a pool house for shade, and a raised sun deck. Beside the pool is a large fountain jacuzzi which can seat several people at once.
The living room
The house was furnished and decorated by a team of professionals to an extremely high standard. The Provençal stone floors ensure the house remains cool in the summer months, while the central heating and chimney makes it perfect for winter days when it can get chilly. The sitting room is spacious and bright, with ample comfortable seating around the chimney, and a television and dvd player. The dining area has a table for six. The huge south facing windows offer views of the Provençal garden, and below it, the Mediterranean style gardens and the swimming pool, with the hills of the Luberon in the background. The sun-filled kitchen has windows facing south, and is equipped with a full sized cooker, dishwasher, microwave, a large fridge-freezer, and a table seating six. Laundry facilities are in a separate utility room.
The Master Bedroom
There are three bedrooms. Two are situated a half-level above the lounge. Each of these bedrooms has an ensuite shower room. One has a double bed, while the other has a pair of electrically adjustable single beds. The large master bedroom is situated on the other side of the house and has a private entrance; it has a queen sized bed, an ensuite shower room, and plenty of hanging and cupboard space. The large windows in this bedroom give great views over the parkland area.

Location
About the Area
The nearest town is Beaumes-de-Venise, which is full of character with its 16th century church and plane trees lining the roads. Beaumes-de-Venise is famous for its production of Muscat wine. The town has a good range of shops selling bread and groceries, an abundance of restaurants and cafés, and tennis courts which can be hired by the hour. The surrounding villages are all worth visiting, and they all have plenty of restaurants with patios. This is also a great place for wine lovers: there are many vineyards locally which offer wine tasting, and the famous wine villages of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, and Vacqueyras are all a short distance away. The local Friday market in Carpentras is a must, as is the Tuesday morning market in Vaison-La-Romaine; both have excellent local produce on sale. It's a 30-minute drive to the ancient town of Avignon, an absolute visual feat, from the gothic grandeur of the medieval Papal Palace to the great shopping in the narrow winding streets.
About the Region
A street in the nearby village of Gigondas
The house is located in the Vaucluse in the wine-producing region of Côtes-du-Rhone. The famous Mont Ventoux is a short drive away. It's a perfect challenge for cycling enthusiasts, and is always featured on the Tour de France route. There are spectacular views from the top: on a clear day, one can see the Pyrénées, Mont Blanc, and the Mediterranean sea. The towns of Vaison-la-Romaine, Carpentras, and Orange, are all within a 20 km radius; Orange has the nearest golf course. There are excellent markets to visit every day. Particularly recommended is the town of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, a haven of antique and
brocante shops which is perfect for a Sunday morning visit. The Roman towns of Nîmes, Arles, and Aix-en-Provence are all within easy driving distance, and are well known for their festivals and museums. It's also an easy drive to the canyons of the Ardèche and Verdon rivers, where one can go rafting or kayaking. Further afield, and ideal for a day trip, are the cities of Marseille and Montpellier, the beaches of the Mediterranean sea, and the Camargue national park, famous for its flamingos and wild horses.
