About the Property

The swimming pool
La Cerisaie, an elegant stone maison de maître, was built in 1831 to house the owner of a cherry orchard. The three-storey house has been fully restored and tastefully furnished with antiques. It contains two separate and fully independent gîtes, each with its own front door. L’Olivier, situated on the middle floor, sleeps six guests in three bedrooms, while on the top floor, Le Bougainvillier takes up to five in two bedrooms. The two units may be rented together for groups of up to 11. The ground floor of the house contains two communal games rooms. Each gîte is well-equipped and comfortably furnished and decorated in the traditional French style. The rooms are light and airy with plenty of natural daylight. The property also has WiFi internet access available.

The 19th century cherry orchard still stands, occupying half a hectare (one acre) of the grounds, which also include a rose garden and a 5x10 metre pool, surrounded by a terrace and fenced for safety. La Cerisaie is located on the edge of the traditional Languedoc village of Caunes-Minervois. The gîtes have excellent views of the cherry orchard and of a river in front of the house, which flows down from the nearby Montagne Noir range. Free parking is available opposite the house.

About the Area
The village of Caunes-Minervois
The village of Caunes-Minervois
La Cerisaie is situated five minutes’ walk from the centre of Caunes Minervois, a medieval village with a good range of shops and services, including a café, bank, butcher, baker, grocer, and restaurants.

The village market takes place three times a week and sells the regional specialties. The village is in the centre of the wine-growing regions of Minervois and Corbières, and visitors can tour the wineries, sampling the product.

The rooftops of Caunes-Minervois
The rooftops of Caunes-Minervois
Caunes-Minervois has an excellent 12th century abbey with a crypt that is open to the public. Summer concerts take place in the abbey’s grounds.

Visitors can play tennis and boules in the village; other activities available in the area include canoeing, climbing, horse riding, and caving. There are many lakes nearby, and some good trails to explore on foot.

About the Region
The region's Corbières wine
The region's Corbières wine
The village of Caunes-Minervois is nestled amid the vinyards at the foot of the Montagne Noir range. The city of Carcassonne is a twenty minute drive. This medieval fortress is an official World Heritage site, and is an excellent place to visit. The 17th century Canal du Midi, just 15 kilometres away, offers boat trips and towpaths to walk or cycle along.

Other places to discover on a day trip include the cities of Narbonne, Toulouse, and Béziers, and the Mediterranean sea, all of which can be reached inside an hour. Further afield is Montpellier, and two hours will take you to the Pyrénées, on the far side of which is Spain, with Barcelona in easy reach.
