Ten kilometres away, the ancient town of Vaison-la-Romaine, founded by the Romans, has an extensive shopping areas, fine restuarants, art galleries, theatres and extensive activities, as well as many antiquities. It hosts a market every Tuesday which is widely regarded as the best in all of Provence.
The area has some excellent walking trails, particularly in the Dentelles de Montmirail mountain range, and is also renowned for its cycling. Mont Ventoux attracts cyclists from around the world and is a famously gruelling stage of the Tour de France. One can rent canoes and paddle down the Ardeche and Gard rivers.
From Ferme la Garrigue, one can take tours of the regional wineries and taste and buy the wine on site.
The great city of Marseille on the south coast has a famous ancient port and a great variety of seafood restaurants. Plan also to visit the salt marsh of the Camargue, home to wild horses and flamingos.
