About the Holiday Home

The pool and poolhouse at night
The pool and poolhouse at night
La Garrigue, a restored south-facing luxurious country house, is surrounded by well-maintained landscaped gardens and a swimming pool, amid the vineyards of the Côtes du Rhône region. Up to eight guests can sleep in four bedrooms. The gardens feature an attractive assortment of regional plants, olive and fig trees, fragrant herbs, and an open lawn. A high wall and electric gates give great privacy.

The four by ten metre pool is terraced on all sides, with sun loungers to make the most of the south-facing aspect. The pool looks onto the surrounding vineyards and the Dentelles hills. A large poolhouse contains everything needed for cooking and dining next to the pool, including a stove, fridge, food preparation area, comfortable armchairs, and a large dining table to seat ten in comfort.

About the Area

The vineyards surrounding the house
The vineyards surrounding the house
La Garrigue is located just a kilometre from the village of Vacqueyras, which is famous for its wine production – as are many other nearby villages and towns, such as Gigondas, Sablet, Beaumes-de-Venise, and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Dominated by a 12th century bell tower, Vacqueyras is an attractive and traditional village with all the shops and services needed for everyday living, and a good selection of restaurants, including the Café de Cours, which is perfect for informal lunches and dinners beneath the plane trees.
A local cave, or wine cellar

The nearby town of Carpentras has an excellent Friday morning market which fills the streets with stalls selling local produce. The nearby town of Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is the antique centre of Provence, and its weekly Sunday antique and general market attracts many visitors. An abundance of caves welcome visitors to taste their wines; many have been run by the same families for generations.

About the Region

Provence is full of lavendar fields
Provence is full of lavendar fields
Vacqueyras is ideally situated to discover the great variety of Provence. The area has a strong Roman history which is present everywhere, such as in the ancient amphitheatre of Orange which today hosts many outdoor evening concerts. There are many excellent options for day trips, including the salt marshes of the Camargue, and the gorges of the Ardeche and Verdon rivers. A good range of activities are available locally, including canoeing in the nearby Fontaine du Vaucluse, and rock climbing in the Dentelles. The cosmopolitan towns of Marseille, Nîmes and Arles are all within an easy drive, and all offer a wealth of culture, history, and great cuisine.
