About the Property
The house, pool and courtyard
The house, pool and courtyard
Originally built in the 18th century as a great stone barn, La Saga has been imaginatively converted into a large three-storey house with a secluded courtyard and swimming pool which is overlooked by an upstairs sun terrace. La Saga is situated in the centre of the ancient village of Pernes-les-Fontaines, which is located in the heart of the Vaucluse region. It is owned by a professional English trombonists who works in the music industry.

A gate leads into the courtyard from an old narrow street in the village. The courtyard is dominated by the four-by-eight metre swimming pool. Steps lead up from the poolside to a sun terrace which overlooks the house and courtyard. The lower terrace has a shaded area with a dining table. By the pool is a built-in barbecue which is great for entertaining outdoors in the daytime and evenings. At night, the pool and courtyard can be lit up.
The living / dining room
The living / dining room
Inside the house, the rooms are all bright and modern with traditional stone floors and exposed wooden beams. Electrical central heating also makes the house a good option for a winter break. The living room/ dining room is a large split level space. The living area is very comfortable with dark brown leather sofas surrounding an open log fire. The living room windows look out to the courtyard and pool. In the dining area, an old oak dining table comfortably seats ten. The kitchen is rustic in style, but has all modern facilities and is well equipped for anyone who loves to cook: there's a large American fridge/freezer, an electric oven/stovetop, a microwave, a dishwasher, and plenty of high quality crockery, glassware and serving pieces. For laundry, there is an outside wash-room with a washing machine and tumble-dryer.

There is a bathroom on the top floor and a shower room on the middle floor. There are two WCs, one on the top floor and one on the ground floor. There is also an outside shower room for the swimming pool.

About the Area
The moat around Pernes-les-Fontaines
The moat around Pernes-les-Fontaines
Pernes-les-Fontaines is an ancient walled village whose origins go back to Roman times. It takes its name from the 37 fountains in the town. Pernes-les-Fontaines has a good range of shops and services, including excellent pâtisseries, boucheries, and fromageries, as well as a post office and a tabac. Every Saturday morning, there is an excellent open-air market selling local farm produce. Within the walls of the old village, there is a Michelin-starred restaurant, just a five-minute walk from La Saga. It's a must for anyone who loves good food.

Every July, the Tour de France passes close to the village before the cyclists make the famous uphill climb to Mont Ventoux. Cycling is a great way to explore the local countryside, and two bikes are provided at La Saga for guests who may want to head into the hills of Les Dentelles de Montmirail. There's also lots to see and do on foot, such as exploring the many nearby vineyards and villages. Many other leisure activities are available nearby, including tennis, horse-riding, motocross, and kayaking, and at Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, there's an excellent 18-hole golf course with great views.

La Saga is an ideal place from which to explore the Vaucluse and Luberon countryside and the ancient cities of Provence. It's just a twenty minute drive to the fortified medieval city of Avignon. Surrounded by tremendous ramparts dating from the 12th century, Avignon is home to the majestic gothic Palace of the Popes; it also has many other sites of cultural interest and a great range of shops. Mont Ventoux is a 25-minute drive, and gives stunning views of the region. Pernes-les-Fontaines is located in the heart of the wine producing region of Côtes du Rhône; the local wines include Beaumes-de-Venise, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, and Gigondas. There are plenty of vineyards which welcome visitors and offer tasting sessions.

Guest Opinions

When we saw your property on the net we were immediatly attracted to it; however, when we arrived, we were amazed by the size, beauty and decor of La Saga. Thank you for a truly memorable stay.
Glennis B - Nelson, New Zealand

It's very rarely that something exceeds my expectations, but La Saga managed to do it. A well managed, stunning property in an ideal location, La Saga was a haven after a busy day exploring Provence but was equally suited to those of us who wanted to spend full days lounging by the pool!  I am still dreaming of the view over the terracotta rooftops and meandering down the lane to my favourite patisserie. I'm sure we'll be back.
Turi E - Sydney, Australia

Thank you for the stay in this wonderful house. We enjoyed the amenities and the wonderful food this area has to offer. The stay was too short and the weather beautiful.
Charlotte W. - Jerricho, USA

Our time spent here was just magical. We have seen so much of the area and enjoyed every day and every village, but Pernes Les Fontaines is our favourite. Quiet, peaceful but with so much to explore. A perfect place to relax.
