About the Area

Cotignac centre-ville in autumn
Cotignac centre-ville in autumn
Cotignac is in the centre of the Var, surrounded by beautiful villages of great character. Cotignac itself is located at the foot of a cliff which was a prehistoric waterfall, and has wonderful rock formations. There are troglodyte homes in the cliff, and more modern ones as well. It is a very active village with an open air theatre in the summer, and every Sunday a different market, as well as the weekly market every Tuesday. The centre of the village is full of bars and restaurants which are shaded by the plane trees which line the street. There are plenty of shops and should you not want to leave the village, there is no need. It even boasts a bank with an ATM. It is one hour from Aix en Provence and one and a quarter hour from St. Tropez.

About the Region

View from Gumperts
View from Gumperts
The area is one of the greenest in France, with acre upon acre of wooded countryside, with endless dirt tracks for the walker or cyclist. Not far away is the Lac St. Croix, and the Gorge du Verdon, the Grand Canyon of France. The Mediterranean is very close, as are St. Tropez, Cannes, and Marseille. There are plenty of places to see, L'Abbey du Thoronet, Chapelle Ste Rosalind, the lavendar fields the otherside of the Lac St Croix, and all the little villages around, not to mention the wine tasting.
