The main house
The main house at Le Manoir des Granges is a typical Perigordine manor house, built in 1822 in the local golden sandstone, on three floors with a natural slate roof. In the living area, armchairs and a sofa surround a stone fireplace, where guests can light log fires on cool evenings, supplemented by the oil-fired central heating. The Tobacco Barn is on the right
The Tobacco Barn is the largest of the four converted outbuildings. There are two double bedrooms, each with its own ensuite shower room, and a third bedroom upstairs, also with an ensuite shower room. The barn is tastefully furnished throughout with English and French antiques. The living room features a Perigordine stone fireplace with a wood burning stove for cooler evenings, natural stone walls, and a beamed ceiling. Guests can also enjoy satellite TV and DVD. A traditional kitchen offers all of the necessary facilities to cook up the local specialties from the markets.
The Tobacco Barn: The living room
The Tobacco Barn: The living room
The living room leads directly to the pool terrace, where a table and chairs and a sun shade make an ideal spot for al fresco dining. Alternatively, guests can dine out in the new gazebo, enjoying the wonderful views of the valley and the nearby prehistoric site, La Roque-St-Christophe.

For groups of up to ten, an excellent alternative to the Main House is to take the Tobacco Barn along with the other three one-bedroom cottages - the Hay Barn, the Walnut Store, and La Roque Terrasse. The four units are self-contained but joined together, and offer good privacy, with the pool and terrace reserved for the sole use of the cottages.

Accommodates: 6 guests
Bedrooms: Three bedrooms: two, each with a double bed, and one with double bed and a single bed. All bedrooms have ensuite shower rooms.

About the Area
The prehistoric settlement of La Roque St Christophe
The prehistoric settlement of La Roque St Christophe
Many local towns offer traditional street markets. Montignac in particular hosts an excellent market twice a week, and nearby Rouffignac has a splendid Sunday morning market, where local farmers exhibit freshly picked vegetables, plump ducklings, fresh foie gras, and enormous selections of local cheeses. There are many excellent local restaurants. La Soleil d'Or in Montignac has a reputation for offering gourmet dishes of the highest standard in very relaxed surroundings.

Opposite Les Granges (just ten minutes walk away) is the famous prehistoric village of Le Roque St Christophe – a limestone cliff face, containing many caves which were inhabited for over 55,000 years, from the prehistoric era up to the middle ages when over 5,000 people lived on the site.

The nearby village of St Leon sur Vézère
The nearby village of St Leon sur Vézère
Many sports are available locally, including cycling, canoeing, walking, golfing and swimming. Le Manoir des Granges is close to the Vézère river, and for a perfect summer’s day, rent a canoe at nearby Montignac, and paddle downstream to the village of St Leon sur Vézère, which has an ancient church and a fairytale chateau built on the banks of the river itself. After a picnic lunch or a visit to one of the local restaurants, continue your journey to Le Roc St Christophe, then continue downstream visiting the little towns and villages, until the rendezvous with the canoe operators, who can return you to Montignac.
About the Region
Montignac on the river Vézère
Montignac on the river Vézère
The Dordogne region is full of interesting history. Nearby places that must be seen include the medieval town of Sarlat, the vibrant city of Perigueux, and many traditional villages, each with a character of their own.

For more ancient history, Le Manoir des Granges is just fifteen minutes from Lascaux, famous for its cave paintings, and also nearby is the village of Les Eyzies, an important site of prehistoric human remains.

Local produce
Local produce
The nearby Chateau de Castelnaud houses a museum of medieval weaponry and, at just a half hour’s drive away, is well worth a visit. Equally close is Chateau de Beynac, which is situated on top of a hill protecting the town of Beynac below. From the chateau, the view over the surrounding landscape is stunning.

Also worth visiting is the 16th Century Chateau de Losse, which dominates the Vézère valley, and Manoir d'Eyrignac, which has been maintained by the same family for several centuries and is renowned for its beautiful gardens.
