Mas la Chevalerie is an independent home on an equestrian ranch in the foothills of the Cévennes mountains just outside the Cévennes National Park. The gîte was converted from a grain barn, located behind the saddlery, and the English owners live in a separate house on the property.

It is set on two floors with a master bedroom and a mezzanine bedroom to suit up to four guests, with an extra loft bed and a sofa bed available if needed.

On the ground floor is the main living space. The modern, well-equipped kitchen includes a dishwasher, microwave, electric oven and stovetop, and a washing machine. The dining area has a table for four.

In the living area is a sofa which can be coverted into an extra bed if needed. The master bedroom on this level has a double bed and also a loft bed suitable for an agile child.

Stairs lead up from the living area to the overlooking gallery, which is furnished with either a double or single bed as required. Also on this level is the shower room and toilet.

Outside is a terrace with furniture to let guests dine al fresco. The house has heating and a free-standing gas-powered heating stove, making it comfortable all year round.

The swimming pool

The pool is 10 by 5 metres and has an additional shallow area. A surrounding terrace includes sunbeds, and there are shady spots by the pool to drink or dine. It is shared with the owners.

The house is set in a couple of acres of landscaped gardens with open lawns and copses of mature trees including fruit trees, and surrounded by woodland groves, streams, terraced fields and vineyards. The views on all sides are of hills, vineyards, olive groves and nearby mountains.

About the Area
The nearby town of Sauve
The nearby town of Sauve
The house is a few minutes' drive from the medieval town of Sauve, which has a good choice of restaurants. Every day, one of the nearby villages hosts a traditional open-air market selling fresh local produce. The most popular are at Uzès and Sommières.

From the property, there is a great choice of hiking trails and bridleways to explore on foot or horseback. They offer spectacular views across the Cévennes mountains towards the Alpes Maritimes.

About the Region
Pont du Gard
Pont du Gard
The rich history of this region can be seen in everything from medieval villages to the extraordinary Roman aqueduct of Pont du Gard, an hour's drive away.

Closer at hand is the Grotte des Demoiselles, an extensive cave accessed by a funicular railway, which is a popular attraction.

A wild horse in the Camargue
A wild horse in the Camargue
Within an hour is the Camargue, the great salt marsh at the delta where the Rhône river meets the Mediterranean. This nature reserve is home to wild white horses, black bulls, and flocks of pink flamingos.

Nearby is Le Grau-du-Roi on the coast, which has miles of soft and sandy beaches. Equally close is the city of Nîmes, founded by the Romans, where the ancient colosseum rivals that of Rome.
