Welcome to
Mas de l'Elze
A renovated Provencal mas with a pool, jacuzzi, and gym, containing three separate rental houses. Located on the edge of the Cévennes mountains, in the rugged Ardèche region.
La Magnanerie at Mas de L'Elze
The Mas de L'Elze is a rambling collection of old stone buildings, clinging to a sun-drenched, south facing slope on the edge of the Cévennes Ardéchoises. In the past, these buildings served a multitude of purposes typical of the local countryside: a silk-worm loft, a drying and smoking area for chestnuts, a barn for storing hay and raising geese and ducks for their foie gras. Now, they have been painstakingly and lovingly transformed into a set of completely independent luxury houses - La Grange, La Clède and La Magnanerie - from which you can fully appreciate the beauty and tranquility of the surrounding countryside. And to help you to relax all the more, the jacuzzi in one of our vaulted cellars is ideal. On the other hand, if you want to keep fit, there is now a gym on-site!
The pool and the best view in the world!
La Clède sleeps two to four guests, La Magnanerie can accommodate two or three, while La Grange can take up to eight visitors in comfort. This makes Mas de l'Elze ideal for couples or families. Each of the three houses has its own private terrace and barbecue. The houses share a large swimming pool, which has a wonderful view of the Beaume and Drobie valleys to the south. The pool enjoys full sunshine from dawn to dusk. There's always cooling shade to be found under a chestnut or cherry tree.

The nearby Gorge de l'Ardeche
Mas de L'Elze is situated on chestnut-clad slopes with stunning views of the Beaume and Drobie valleys to the south. At 500m above sea level, there is always a gentle breeze rippling through the cherry orchard, even in the height of the hottest summer.
Although L'Elze appears to be isolated in the midst of beautiful countryside, the small village of Rocles, which has a bar and a boulangerie, is only 5 minutes away.
The Ardeche mountains
The closest town to the Mas de L'Elze is Largentière, which dates back to medieval times and has retained its walls and gates. Its ancient winding cobbled streets are well-served by bars and restaurants, together with various shops specialising in locally produced foodstuffs.
You can also sample local produce in the bustling markets (there is a market somewhere closeby on every day of the week!). Between Largentière and Aubenas, you will find Balazuc, perched on the cliffs of the Ardèche Gorges. It is designated one of the most picturesque villages of France and fully deserves this designation.
The Pont d'Arc over the Ardèche river
The majestic Gorges of the Ardèche, famous for their natural beauty, are a short drive away. Closer to home are the valleys of the Beaume, Drobie and Chassezac, less well-known, but no less beautiful. The mountain range of the Tanargue forms a backdrop to the setting sun in the west. An unusual natural phenomenon to be found nearby is the Bois de Paiolive, a labyrinth of white rocks eroded into strange and fantastic shapes. The region is also renowned for its caves. In recent years, the Chauvet caves near Vallon Pont D'Arc were discovered to contain some of the most magnificent prehistoric paintings ever seen, surpassing even those of Lascaux. There are also many museums and exhibits of local crafts to visit, such as the displays of the raising of silk worms. If you want to travel slightly farther afield, the towns of Avignon, Orange, Uzès and Nîmes are all within easy reach. Alternatively, just stay at home and enjoy the countryside while relaxing in the sun with a glass of local wine. But, should you wish to get a little closer to nature, many opportunities for horse-riding, mountain-biking and hiking are available in the region. Canoeing is very popular, and bathing or fishing in the clear, cool local rivers is a pleasure not to be missed.
