About the Area
The village of Sablet
The village of Sablet
The village of Sablet has a good selection of shops and services, including a simple but attractive country restaurant, a pharmacy, and several doctors. On the village square, there is a wine cellar where the local wines can be sampled. Mas de la Respelido is situated in the heart of the wine producing region of the Côtes du Rhône, close to where the "grands crus" wines of the Côtes du Rhône come from, such as Sablet, Gigondas, Seguret and Vacqueyras. The area is full of vineyards, many of which welcome visitors for wine tasting sessions.

There are plenty of other activities available in the area, including rambling and hiking, rock-climbing, horse riding, tennis, and mountain biking. The climate is mild and pleasant all year-round, with lots of sunshine during the summer.

The village of Sablet is a ten-minute drive from the town of Vaison-La-Romaine, and fifteen minutes to Orange. Both towns were founded by the Romans, and are famous for their ruins and amphitheatres. Those times are well documented in excellent local museums. During the summer, they host numerous music and dance festivals as well as theatre productions.

About the Region
The Roman ruins of Vaison-la-Romaine
The Roman ruins of Vaison-la-Romaine
The Vaucluse is a particularly attractive part of France to visit, with great and diverse natural beauty in the landscape, and a wealth of historical and cultural riches. The Roman and medieval periods most notably left their marks on this region. There are many wonderfully preserved Roman ruins, and fortified villages, abbeys, and castles from the Middle Ages. The famous Papal City of Avignon is twenty minutes away. This was the city where an alternative papacy was established during the Middle Ages at the time of the Hundred Years War; it is now classified by Unesco as a World Heritage site.

An excellent trip is to take a boat journey down the Rhône to the Camargue wildlife park, famous for its flamingos and diverse fowl species, its wild horses and cattle herds and farms (called manades). Along the way, visit the Roman arenas at Nîmes and Arles. The medieval city of Aix-en-Provence is also an essential destination for a day trip, as is Marseille with its picturesque old city and harbour.
