About the Property
Living area
Living area
Poulidore was originally built as a large stone barn with living accommodation attached. It has been converted into a spacious farmhouse, full of character with old exposed oak beams throughout.

Up to eight guests can sleep in three bedrooms, with two children's beds on the gallery, and for parties of up to 10, a separate converted outbuilding, available on request, can sleep two more.

Inside the house is a very spacious main living area, with a large stone fireplace, and a comfortable seating area with long dining table. Huge French windows look out onto a paved area with sunbeds, which surrounds the big swimming pool.

Meals are perfect outdoors on the patio, which has a barbecue and its own stone fireplace, matching the one inside. The kitchen is well equipped with all modern facilities. In the utility room there is a washing machine and a fridge freezer.

There are two large twin bedrooms downstairs, and a new bathroom with a shower, a bath, basin and toilet, as well as a separate toilet next door. Upstairs is a double bedroom and bathroom, with two more beds (suitable for children) on the substantial gallery/landing.

The large fenced garden has a lawn with mature shrubs, and an orchard full of pear, fig, apple, peach, cherry, greengage, plum and mirabelle trees all of which produce fruit at different times of the year. The property is surrounded on three sides by a plum orchard and on the fourth by the lane and the local vineyards.

About the Area
The church in Monségur
The church in Monségur
The local town is Monségur, about 6kms away. It is an attractive little market town, with a boulangerie selling great croissants and baguettes, a market (on Fridays) selling groceries, meats and fish, and an excellent supermarket, as well as shops, bars, six tennis courts, kayaking on the River Dropt, cycling, a boule area, one excellent restaurant and two good restaurants. The first weekend in July there is a famous Jazz festival in Monségur.

About 12kms away is Duras, a beautiful bastide town famous for its château, once home to the notorious Duc de Duras, a ruthless 12th century nobleman. At La Réole, there is a good museum, specialising in transport and the two World Wars, as well as a charming Saturday market which takes place along the banks of the River Garonne. Château Malrome where Toulouse Lautrec spent his summers with his mother is nearby. There are large supermarkets here and in Marmande, 15kms away. Marmande is also a good place to shop for clothes, gifts, kitchenware and cosmetics.

About the Region
The medieval market in Duras
The medieval market in Duras
This region is not only famous for its wine, but also its gastronomic delights such as foie gras, confits, shellfish and duck. Everywhere there are vineyards, and little caves for tasting the wines. The most celebrated of the vine-growing areas is St. Émilion, only about 45 minutes away and well worth a visit, not only for its wine but also for the town's restaurants and beautiful little streets. There are many local golf courses. At Château Vigier, there is both a 9 and an 18 hole course, and 2 excellent restaurants and there are also good golf courses at Castelajoux and Langon.
The Château de Duras

Issegeiac is a medieval village with a great Sunday market, and a good restaurant for lunch. The Dordogne region is nearby, with many châteaux, gardens and market towns to visit. Bordeaux is only an hour's drive away and is known locally as a mini-Paris. It is well worth a visit for its museums, art galleries, shops and superb restaurants. To avoid parking problems there is a frequent train service from La Réole through the beautiful countryside.
