About the Area
Bayeux Cathedral, a short walk from the house
Bayeux Cathedral, a short walk from the house
The town of Bayeux is full of history. Within a few minutes’ walk is the Bayeux Tapestry – one of the great artifacts of the medieval era, which details the Norman invasion of England in 1066.

The famous cathedral is also just a short walk from the house. Consecrated in 1077, the cathedral was extended over hundreds of years. Daily guided tours are available.

Also nearby is the Musée Baron Gérard, showing local history, the bustling market every Saturday morning, and the Wednesday morning craft market. There are plenty of excellent restaurants, bars and cafés, and pâtisseries to make your mouth water!

About the Region
Land yachting on a Normandy beach
Land yachting on a Normandy beach
Bayeux is ideally placed for touring this beautiful and culturally rich region of France. The D-Day beaches (Omaha, Utah, Gold, Juno and Sword) are a short drive away, and apart from the historical interest, they offer miles and miles of golden sand for a traditional bucket-and-spade holiday.

Among the places within easy reach for a day trip are the harbour town of Honfleur with its old picturesque port, the medieval citadel of Mont-St-Michel, and the town of St-Mère-Eglise, home to a famous D-Day museum.

The harbour of Port-en-Bessin

Caen, the birth place of William the Conqueror, is architecturally beautiful and offers excellent shopping. The château and botanical gardens are particularly well worth seeing. A theme park on its outskirts is ideal for a day out for younger children.

Port-en-Bessin on the coast offers a good market on Sunday mornings, especially for fresh fish. The area is ideal for horse riding, cyling, and fishing, and there is an excellent golf course near the coast.

The best thing we can say is that you did everything you could to make our stay here comfortable, pleasant and an enjoyable experience. The house is lovely and we truly enjoyed our stay.

Thank you for the goodie basket on our arrival which was a blessing for a late evening arrival. We cannot believe how quiet it is here. You have really put an effort into making 8 rue Laitiere a home away from home. We had a fantastic time!
Brian and Carole L. - Vancouver, BC, Canada

In our short week we walked Bayeux extensively and became positive that this house can not be bested. You have a gem that you have polished to a great lustre. This is quite the lovely little house.
Dennis & Kim O. - Charleston, South Carolina, USA

Your wonderful home provided me the peace and quiet, the privacy and all the charm I needed to physically rest and soothe my mind. There are not enough positive words in the dictionary to describe the wonder here, or to thank you. We hope next time we visit we will be able to stay here again.
Geno K. - Charleston, South Carolina, USA

We really enjoyed our stay here this week. The house is simply wonderful and the town is really lovely! It was so nice to get away from TV and the internet for a while and enjoy the simple life once again.
Roger and Sue D. - Eastham, Mass., USA

What a lovely and charming little house is 8 rue Laitiere! With all the amenities of home, its a great base for exploring Normandie. We especially enjoyed dinner on the terrace under the spire of the Cathedral lit up at night.
Carolyn & Raffaele - Ontario, Canada

The most perfect little house, in a fascinating area. Our 6 year old son loved everything about our stay - the expansive beaches, the great museums, the lovely countryside... as did we! Very moved by the cemetary - such amazing young men who sacrificed so much. Well be back. Still so much to explore...
Dan S. - London, UK

What a delightful find in the heart of town. Everything perfect. A positive end to a great visit for our family to France. We will be back and will pass on to friends what a charming home this is.
