About the Holiday Home

The swimming pool
The swimming pool
La Vieille Grange is part of a 300 year old traditional stone farmhouse, close to the ancient Provençal town of Vaison-la-Romaine. The Anglo/French owners, Alex and Sabine, live on site, and are always happy to offer advice and assistance. The house’s thick stone walls and terracotta tiles keep it pleasantly cool during the endless sunshine of the Mediterranean summers.

Inside, the house is decorated in warm and sunny colours and furnished in a simple, traditional style. Exposed wooden beams line the ceilings. The attractively tiled fitted kitchen is fully equipped. In the same large room is a dining table and a sofa. Up a few steps is the large double bedroom, which has views of the orchard and vineyards surrounding the house. A shower room adjoins the bedroom.

Sabine always makes her guests feel welcome with vases of fresh flowers, fruit, homemade jam, a baguette, a bottle of her father's wine and maybe even some "tapenade", a local speciality made from olives.

The dining terrace
The dining terrace
La Vieille Grange is ideal for nature lovers, and anyone who would love a tranquil setting without being isolated. Alex is a landscape designer, and has put much care into the vineyards, olive trees, and orchards which surround the house. Guests have their own private garden, with a water feature and an open-air dining terrace. The house has superb views of the hills towards Séguret and the Rhône valley. The pool is set to one side of the property admist the olive trees, and is shared with the owners.

The house is located in St. Véran which is a hamlet bearing the names of the vineyards around the property. The nearest town is Vaison-la-Romaine, which was founded by the Romans. Vaison has a good range of shops and services, and hosts one of the area’s best markets every Tuesday morning, where fresh regional produce is for sale. The town also has some very good restaurants, ranging from small traditional places offering excellent value, to outstanding Michelin-starred establishments.

Horse riding and rock climbing courses are also available in the nearby village of Gigondas. It’s also a great countryside to explore on foot and there are excellent hiking trails leading from La Vieille Grange up into the hills and through the vineyards. Sabine’s family has been making wine for generations, and tours of the cellars and vineyards can be arranged.
