The manor house on the estate where the tower is located
This unique tower was built originally as a pigeonnier, or pigeon house, and was converted in 2006 into a comfortable and unique rental property. Up to four guests can sleep in two double bedrooms.

The tower is situated inside a private estate which was once a favourite hunting ground of French royalty. Two and a half hectares (six acres) in size, it is surrounded by the Andelle River, with quiet and picturesque grounds ideal for fishing and walking. Chickens, geese, and sheep roam the grounds, and there is always the possibility of fresh eggs for breakfast.

The large living area features a fully equipped American bar-style kitchen with refrigerator, oven and plenty of cooking space.

The centre of the living area is at at the heart of the tower, and soars up 12 metres (40 feet) to the roof.

The nearby village of Croisy-sur-Andelle has about five hundred inhabitants. A butcher, baker, and grocery are available within two kilometres at Vascoeuil, and a supermarket is five kilometres. One can also buy milk, cheese, cream, chicken, and vegetables from local organic farms. Four kilometres away is a country market, which sells a good range of regional produce.

The nearby historic Château de Vascœuil is a national monument which welcomes many visitors to its gardens and contemporary art exhibitions. The area is dotted with excellent golf clubs, and anyone who enjoys walking will find a great choice of trails, with maps available from the owners. The quiet country roads are also ideal to explore on a bicycle. There is also a range of antique shops locally.

About the Region
France's oldest restaurant in Rouen
France's oldest restaurant in Rouen
The region offers a wealth of historical and cultural places of interest. The town of Giverny, an hour's drive away, is where the impressionist painter Claude Monet lived for the latter half of his life. One can visit his garden, where he painted his many delicate and nuanced pictures of water lilies.

Other sites that inspired Monet are located throughout the region, including the city of Rouen, where he painted the great cathedral under ever-changing conditions of light. Rouen is also home to the oldest brasserie in France, and is where, in 1431, Joan of Arc was burned at the stake.

The city of Le Havre is located at the mouth of the Seine River and sits on the bank of the English Channel. This bustling city was once called Havre-Marat, in honour of Jean Paul Marat, one of the heroic martyrs of the French Revolution.

Within reasonable driving distance is the famous Étretat area, with its distinctive and recognizable cliff, featured in dozens of paintings and films. The house is also ideally located for a day trip to Paris, about two hours' drive away.

The region of Normandy is, of course, very significant to modern history as its beaches were the Allied landing point on D-Day, in June of 1944. Visit the many memorials and historical landmarks of this proud region, or take a walk along the beach and listen to the past.

From scenic drives to pleasant routes for walking and cycling, from tranquil farms to restaurants and museums steeped in history, the region of Upper Normandy is a place to relax and reflect, to enjoy a quiet vacation or a busy taste of modern French culture.

What a wonderful visit we have had here. The pictures do not do this lovely guest house justice. The owner has thought of everything to make staying here comfortable and pleasant. We couldn’t have dreamed of a nicer place or more pleasant stay.

We spent a wonderful week. Mrs Steinfatt was a warm hostess who made sure we did not run out of fresh eggs from her hens and of calvados made from the apple trees of her estate. She was equally helpful with information about the region. This has been an idyllic week.
Diane and Cecil J. - California, USA
