North American travelers are entitled to a refund of the TVA (Taxe à la Valeur Ajoutée) - or Value Added Tax - on purchases of 1,200F or more made the same day at any single store.
Discounts are significant, ranging from 13% to 20%, depending on the type of merchandise.
You will need to show your passport when filling out the required forms. In order to receive your refund, you must present the completed forms at the airport customs counter, prior to checking in your luggage, after which your forms will be stamped, processed and mailed back to the store. A refund will be sent to you a few weeks later, or credited to your charge card account. If requested, the refund can be made directly by customs officers at the "Bureau de la détaxe".
