Appartement de l’Artiste is a renovated 19th century one-bedroom apartment, located on the second floor above an art gallery in the medieval village of Collobrières., close to the Mediterranean.
Floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room and bedroom fill the apartment with light and overlook the main street of the village, with a panoramic view of the surrounding Maures mountain range.
Recently renovated and redecorated, the apartment consists of a large bedroom with a double bed, a spacious living room, a small dining room, an eat-in kitchen, and a bathroom with a combined bathtub and shower. The kitchen includes a refrigerator, an electric stovetop, a microwave, and a washing machine.
In the elegant living room, a pair of armchairs and a sofa give plenty of room to relax, with a stereo and a television for entertainment. The décor includes original works by the owner, a professional artist. There is a choice of restaurants, bars, and shops within a short walk.
The village of Collobrières dates from the 12th century, and is the capital of the region. Seven restaurants serve excellent food in Collobrières, including one with a particularly good reputation. Also in the village are three bars, three grocery stores, a butcher, two beauty salons and several gift shops. Collobrières is a very traditional village with a fountain in the centre of the square, a ruined 12th century church, and a 14th century mill. For recreation, there is a good choice of hiking trails, and tennis courts nearby.
Collobrières is centrally located in the middle of the département of Var. The summer months are filled with festivals and concerts.
During the last three weeks in October, the village hosts the annual Chestnut Festival, celebrating the region’s primary industry. Vineyards are spread throughout the region, and many of them welcome visitors.
It’s a short drive to the beaches of the Mediterranean and the seaside restaurants. For a good day trip, the nearby cities of Toulon and Aix-en-Provence provide a rich pallette of Roman and medieval history, culture, and entertainment.
Also within easy reach is the Canyon du Verdon, which offers a variety of outdoor sports including canoeing and white-water rafting.
“I knew immediately that I was going to enjoy my stay here. I come to France for the food and the wine. I love to cook from the wonderful markets and found the kitchen well appointed to make many great meals . If you enjoy the experience of living in a small non tourist town this is the place for you. We look forward to going back next year.”
