Badminton, croquet, and ping-pong in the garden

Caufour is a converted barn built in the local stone of the Quercy region of the south Lot. Formerly used for drying tobacco, it is now a spacious and comfortable home on two floors. Two bedrooms can accomodate up to four guests, with a cot available for a baby.

A private driveway from a country lane leads to the house, which is set in two hectares (five acres) of mature gardens with walnut trees, an orchard and a large meadow. Also in the garden are a ping-pong table, badminton court, and croquet hoops.

The gardens enjoy panoramic views over the rolling hills of the Quercy countryside in the south of the Lot region.

Where to Go, What to Do

The square in Lauzerte
The square in Lauzerte

Caufour is well placed for visiting the nearby bastides- fortified villages built during the late middle ages, a deeply turbulent era in this part of France. Montcuq is famed for its imposing tower, restaurants offering local cuisine and a renowned Sunday market, where many merchants sell cheese, meats, and local produce. Lauzerte is stunningly situated on a hill and is built around an arcaded square, and has many interesting shops.

Just outside Montcuq is a picturesque lake with a sandy beach for swimming. In the surrounding region you can enjoy many other activities, including cycling, golf, horse riding and fishing. The clear night skies above Caufour are a delight for stargazers!

The medieval village in Cahors
The medieval village in Cahors

It's a short drive to the historic town of Cahors, famous for its medieval bridge. From here, explore the vineyards and villages of the beautiful Lot valley. You can enjoy canoeing and kayaking near Cahors and, of course, wine tasting!

Within about an hour’s drive to the south of Caufour there is the famous abbey at Moissac and the rose-bricked towns of Montauban and Toulouse to discover.
