Les Deux Magnolias is a one-bedroom cottage with a swimming pool, ideal for a couple. It is situated in a rural setting outside the Dordogne village of Saint-Léon-sur-L'Isle.
The cottage is in the spacious lawned gardens of the owners' separate and secluded home. Guests at Les Deux Magnolias have exclusive use of a 10 x 5 metre swimming pool next to the cottage. There are no other cottages on the premises.
The interior of the single-storey cottage is bright, spacious, and attractively furnished and decorated. French doors lead into a well-equipped open plan living / dining / kitchen area.
An archway leads to a double bedroom with a king size bed. There is an en-suite shower room and WC. French doors lead out to the garden, where there are both sunny and shaded sitting and dining areas around the pool and gardens.
The property is in a tranquil rural setting, surrounded by fields, just across the lane from the gently flowing river l'Isle, with a view of hills in the distance. Canoeing facilities are available in St.Astier and Neuvic.
It's a short walk into the village of Saint-Léon-sur-l'Isle, which has a range of everyday shops and services.
Les Deux Magnolias is located just a short walk from St Léon. This small village has a grocery store, a butcher, a bakery, a café/restaurant, a post office, a launderette and a barber shop. St Léon also has places for fishing. Fishers need a permit, which the owner can obtain for visitors.
Two kilometres away, the village of Neuvic has the nearest petrol station and supermarket. Neuvic is also the location of an impressive château set amid an exceptional botanical garden.
There is a wider range of facilities, including several restaurants, three supermarkets, and a train station, four kilometres to the east in the town of St Astier. Every Thursday is market day in St Astier; it is one of the best in the area, with a wide variety of local food and products on sale. This is an ideal opportunity to explore Dordogne's renowned cuisine; regional specialties include paté de foie gras and magrets d’oies et canards.
There is a public 18-hole golf course nearby, where equipment can be hired. Etang de la Jemaye is about fifteen minutes by car. The lake features a scenic beach, restaurant, recreational activities, picnic areas, and free parking.
There are many historic towns, villages and vineyards within easy reach by car. Every town has a market day, where regional specialties are available, such as duck, fine wines, walnuts, and strawberries. Most vineyards also have wine tasting opportunities for visitors.
20 kilometres to the east is the city of Périgueux, the capital of the Périgord region. This town is steeped in history, and has some fine cathedrals. It's a 60 minute drive to the city of Bordeaux, which has a very impressive 18th century centre, and a great range of shops.
Also within easy reach are the châteaux of Hautefort and Bourdeilles. Don't miss the chance to visit the flawlessly preserved medieval town of Sarlat, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Other recommended trips include Lascaux, famous for its prehistoric cave paintings; the immense cave at Padirac, where visitors can take a boat ride through a subterranean lake; the Vezère and Dordogne rivers for canoeing and swimming; and the vineyards of Bergerac, Bordeaux and St. Emilion.
Véronique and Johan - Eindhoven, The Netherlands
“How lovely it was to be back at Les Deux Magnolias and be welcomed like old friends. The pool is still magnificant, the gardens an oasis of quiet and we loved the birds and the shy squirrel. We grantly appreciate your generosity to host our American friends. They were blown away by the your beautiful place. God willing we may be back again.”
Mary and Vincent - Wicklow, Ireland
Elly and Piet - Soest, The Netherlands
René - Delfgauw, The Netherlands
“As always we come with such happiness - and leave with much sadness. You have given us another wonderful holiday. Thank you both so much for providing us with our favourite holiday destination. It’s a big world out there, but all roads lead ....not to Rome....but Les Deux Magnolias. Dank je wel! We will be back for our 10th visit!”
Michele and Hugh - Hull, England
Trudy and Ton - Eindhoven, The Netherlands

Once you drive through the gates, you can leave the rest of the world behind and enter the peace and tranquility that is Les Deux Magnolias. The fully "trained" squirrels provided us hours of fun. A perfect relaxing holiday. Now this is the hardest bit: "Home is where the heart is". Well, I have left a piece of my heart here.”
