Pépite is a contemporary three-bedroom villa, set in the Gascon countryside in southwestern France, with views of the Pyrénées. Built in the 1960s, the single-storey house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, and is ideal for a family or two or three couples.

The house is surrounded by a large private garden and is situated down a quiet country lane. The covered terrace faces south, with views across the valley towards the Pyrénées mountain range. Here you can enjoy al fresco dining, soak in the hot tub with a glass of wine, or sunbathe on the raised lawn.

The interior of the villa is freshly decorated in pastel colours to give light, bright, modern accommodation. The living room, with comfortable, modern sofas seating up to six people, is a place to curl up with a good book, watch a film or catch up on your favourite TV programme with both English and French TV channels available.

You can warm this room with the wood burner on a cold evening. Large French doors lead out onto the terrace. Walk through to the fully equipped kitchen/dining area, which includes a dishwasher, microwave, electric oven and hob/stovetop and a large fridge-freezer.

For those who like using fresh foods from the local markets, a number of cookery books will help you turn them into classic French dishes. The dining area and extendable table has room for at least six people. The French doors lead to the raised terrace.

There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms, one of which is ensuite. Two of the bedrooms have king size beds, and one has a pair of single beds. The two king size bedrooms are at opposite sides of the house, perfect for sharing and maintaining privacy.

We provide a welcome pack which includes coffee, tea, and biscuits. In the fridge, you will find water and the local wine. Also provided are Mineral Spa starter toiletries, bathrobes and slippers, soft white towels, quality bedlinen and big beach towels, so all you need to do is bring your clothes and enjoy!

Where to Go, What to Do

Aignan lake with its beach and restaurant
Aignan lake with its beach and restaurant

Here in deepest Gascony, you can forget the hustle and bustle of city life. But there are still plenty of things to see and do. This is a lovely area of the Gers, in the heart of the Plaimont wine area, where you can enjoy excellent wine and food. Local delicacies include duck (fois gras) and Armagnac.

Local towns and villages have weekly market days where you can buy the freshest of foods. It's an easy ten minute walk to the village of Aignan, which has a well-stocked supermarket, boulangerie, pharmacy, bank and a number of bars and restaurants. Explore the local countryside, visiting nearby bathing lakes in Aignan and Lupiac, each with their own beaches and restaurant facilities.

Close to Aignan there is Nogaro and its race track, Eauze (which hosts a market every Thursday), Vic Fezensac and its Tempo Latino festival in July, and Marciac and its Jazz Festival, also July. Auch, the capital of the Gers and one of the 'Grands Sites Midi-Pyrénées', is also an interesting place to visit. And every summer, the Tour de France usually passes this way.

The nearby towns have busy summer schedules of festivals and events. Pretty fortified villages, dating from the Middle Ages, are everywhere. Some of these are 'Les Plus Beaux Villages de France' such as Larressingle (known as the little Carcassonne), the village of Fources, uniquely built around a circle, Montreal and the Château de Lavardens.

The Petit Train at Artouse in the Pyrénées
The Petit Train at Artouse in the Pyrénées

Some of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites are perfect for day trips, such as Bordeaux, Mont Perdu, the Canal du Midi and the Route of Santiago de Compostela. Day and night markets are held in the area and you can enjoy walking around the Vide-Greniers (flea markets) at the weekends.

Gascony was never a clearly-defined territory in old France, but the name Gascony has long been attached to a large area of the southwest of France, stretching from the river Garonne to the Pyrenees. Today, it is synonymous with "douceur de vivre", a relaxed way of life, gentle countryside, and fine gourmet cuisine. Aignan is centrally located in what is now known as the Gers, which itself is known as 'The Tuscany of France'.

Biarritz on the Atlantic Coast
Biarritz on the Atlantic Coast

The Atlantic Coast is within easy reach, where you can visit seaside towns like Biarritz, Capbreton, Hossegor and Bayonne.

There is also plenty to see and do in the Pyrénées such as the ski resorts, fabulous in both winter and summer. You can take a cable car up to the famous peak, the Pic du Midi, or enjoy a cable ride on the highest train in Europe at Artouste.
