About the Holiday Home

The private terrace.
The private terrace.

L’Ambiance is an apartment on the second floor of a building in the historic old town of L' Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. In the picture above, it is the window with the striped awning and window boxes.

It looks out onto a lively town square with a café and several shops. Right around the corner is the Sorgue river, cafes and restaurants. The town is also full of delightful galleries, winding streets and hidden historic buildings. One bedroom has a queen size bed, or if you prefer, it can be made up as twin beds.

In the center of town with the buzz of the village all around, l’Ambiance was completely renovated with a gourmet kitchen, shower room, a quiet and relaxing terrace with a barbecue and decor by a professional designer. The decoration is a combination of new furniture and interesting old local finds. Wi-Fi is available throughout the apartment.

L’Ambiance is the perfect place to enjoy the bounties of this fabulous Provençal town and, for a short time, pretend you really live here. After spending many vacations in l’Isle Sur la Sorgue, our fantasy of living here came true when we purchased l’Ambiance. We hope that those are also your desires and that l’Ambiance can be your home away from home.

Where to Go, What to Do

The beautiful river Sorgue surrounds the centre of the village of L' Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.
The beautiful river Sorgue surrounds the centre of the village of L' Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.

L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is renowned for its Sunday market which includes incredible produce, cheese and other food, antiques and brocante. Walk out the front door and the market is there for you to enjoy. There is also a Thursday farmers’ market in town, and in Velleron, just a few kilometers away, there is a farmers’ market six evenings a week!

With excellent butchers, bakeries and wine shops just a short walk from the apartment, you can make delicious meals in the gourmet kitchen or walk to the restaurants and cafés nearby.

L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is close to internationally acclaimed wine villages. It is just a short drive to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueras, Sablet, and many others. A slightly longer drive will take you to Bandol and Cassis.

The ancient Roman theatre in Orange

L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is located in one of the major wine regions in France, the southern Rhône valley. The reds are noted for their big, bold and fruity qualities. The whites are light and fresh. The rosé is special and not to be missed.

Visit the asylum Van Gogh was at in St. Remy en Provence; if you like ancient Roman ruins visit Glanum next door; a bit further away there is the ancient town of La Baux, which is very pretty but can get crowded with tourists. The centre of St-Remy has lots of little streets and shops that are fun to walk through.

The hilltop town of Gordes
The hilltop town of Gordes

There are many places well worth visiting a little further afield. The city of Orange, founded by the Romans, has an ancient open-air theatre that hosts a summer opera festival.

The beautiful hillside town of Gordes is also worth a visit, as are the many other Provençal hilltop towns such as Menerbes, Bonnieux, and Lacoste. Uzès has interesting architecture and good shopping. And the city of Avignon, which was the home of the popes for a period during the middle ages, has a spectacular medieval papal palace.

Guest Opinions

“We loved our time in L’Ambiance. A perfect location in l’Isle, right in the old town square. The apartment was very well appointed and very comfortable. The kitchen had everything you would need, plus a washing machine. We would highly recommend as a central home to explore the villages of Provence. Helen, the manager, was lovely and extremely helpful!”
Laurie and Rick P. - Victoria, British Colombia, Canada

“The apartment is very well equipped. All in all, our stay was excellent and we would recommend the apartment, the property manager Helen, and the owners Harry and Judy.”
Jennifer and Eric M. - Vancouver, Canada

“This was our second trip to the apartment and l’Isle sur la Sorgue. We enjoyed it as much or more than our first trip. The kitchen in this apartment is exceptionally well equipped. There is a pan for every need and the gas stove is a joy to use. The BBQ on the terrace is really nice for a quick grill of sausage or other meat for dinner. There is an excellent butcher and boulangerie just a few steps from the apartment. There is a friendly small wine store near the church. The Utile is a good small grocery store for in between market days.”
Keith G - California, USA

“We rented L’Ambience for only two weeks... should have made it longer. The apartment has everything you could possibly need. The owners are very helpful and welcoming, with Helen who welcomed us and had helpful ideas about the local sights and restaurants. The town is a real gem and we found our few favourite shops and eateries. We are looking forward to our next visit.”
Elliot & Jeannette S. - Montreal, Canada

“We stayed a week at L’Ambiance for our two week honeymoon and we wish we had planned the full two weeks here. The location was amazing in the middle of L’Isle sur la Sorgue, with a great view over a cafe which often hosted live music. The apartment had everything we needed to be comfortable away from home and was very spacious. Helen was incredibly sweet and welcoming and gave us lots of tips for sightseeing and eating out in the area. We also received a call from Judy just to make sure we had everything we needed.”
Sara and Tyler - Maine, USA
