“In permanent residence at Les Huguets since 2004!”
Les Huguets is a traditional stone house in the Lot, with a swimming pool, an orchard and gardens, close to some of the most beautiful towns, villages and countryside in France. The English owners, Mike and Dorrie Norris, live in the main building.
Available to rent is a choice of either a self-contained apartment on the ground floor of the house, or a separate wooden chalet set in the orchard. Both have a double bed and are suitable for a couple. Rental rates are the same for both.
The chalet and apartment face southwest to enjoy plenty of sunshine. The apartment has a covered balcony, and the chalet has an outdoor seating area.
The property has been newly refurbished for 2019. Watch for updated photos soon!
The apartment has a large living/dining area with a sofa, armchairs, and a comprehensive video and music network. A well equipped kitchen/dining area has a hob, oven, microwave, fridge and dishwasher. The double bedroom has a wardrobe and a chest of drawers. Both the bedroom and living area open into a shower room with a toilet.
Separate from the main house, the chalet has its own private driveway. With a double bedroom and a bedroom with 2 bunk beds, it can take a couple with room for another guest or 2 children. The living room has a collection of movies and music. A fully equipped kitchen has a refrigerator, dishwasher, hob, microwave, kettle, and filter coffee machine. There is a shower room and a separate utility room with a washing machine.
Secluded and peaceful, the property overlooks the gentle hills and chestnut forests of the Bouriane. The pool is set between the orchard and the garden, and guests have exclusive use of it. Or enjoy a traditional game of boules on the grass. Wireless internet access is available.
The village bakery is a few minutes' stroll from the house. A few kilometres north is the village of Frayssinet, with a small shop-restaurant-bar. Equally close is the picturesque village of Saint-Germain-du-Bel-Air has a doctor, dentist, pharmacy, post office, bakery, grocer, hairdresser, restaurant and a Sunday market.
The larger village of Labastide-Murat also has a bank, supermarket, a variety of small shops and a fortnightly Monday morning market. The hilltop town of Gourdon has a range of shops, restaurants, and supermarkets, and hosts a Saturday market. The walled city of Cahors, 25 kilometres away, has both Wednesday and Sunday markets, superstores, and a range of shops and services. It's well worth spending a day exploring the history and culture in its medieval streets.
Les Huguets is situated on the edge of the Massif Centrale in the area of parkland and outstanding natural beauty known locally as the Bouriane. It is a region where the limestone disappears under a bed of red and ochre sandstone, which allows chestnut, pine and walnut trees to grow.
The region has many vineyards on south-facing slopes. A great number of rivers carve through the plateau creating a hilly, mixed forest and wooded countryside where deer and boar roam. To the east, the Quercy national park contains the picturesque Célé valley. There are an abundance of local walking and cycling trails.
